最初の曲はMallet Quartet for 2 marimbas and 2 vibraphones.
マリンバの音がとてもきれいでした。
2曲目は、去年NYカーネギーホールでの公演でも演奏された It is Time for
4 Percussionists.
So Percussion held their venue at UNT on Thursday.
The hall they used this time looked new and was very nice size.
I was surprised to see how big the University became since I used to go
there. The audiences seemed mostly music students of UNT because it
was the special event of the University. Especially there were a lot of
drummers. They were excited about the performance a lot. I think
they could see the various directions of drumming could go by the
performance.
When Jason appeared on the stage, I was about to cry with the excitement.
Oh, I got too old.... An old lady saw her brother on the stage, who was so
little when she saw him long time ago, and his presence on the stage made
her cry.
The performance was very interesting. The first one was with marimbas and
vibraphones. This was, I can say, straight-ahead music of marimbas. It was
very beautiful. The second one got much more contemporary. They used
instruments other than musical instruments and made their sound expressing
Time. It was very much "performance". When they put kitchen timers on the
stage, the movement was all choreographed. It was fun "watching" their
music listening their music. The third one was most difficult piece for me.
It was very much modern. The composer is "computer dork" according to
them, every instruments including bricks or metal tubes was connected to
computer with wires and made very interesting original sound. They used
big base drums on the center of the stage, and it had speakers in it. The
base drum was the instrument to make sound and also a speaker itself.
Also they used rubber strings and pulled those to make sound. Jason
explained me later that the strings' sound goes into the computer and
converted to the sound of violin, which is inverted. ??? Very complexed
sound and construction, and interesting.
This was my first time to see Jason playing. I am looking forward to seeing
other performances very soon. Thank you, Jason!
